The Blätter der Wohlfahrtspflege is a magazine that was first published in 1848 as a magazine for the poor and which today deals with questions of social work.

history

On January 8, 1848, the magazine Blätter der Wohlfahrtspflege appeared for the first time under the title Blätter für das Armenwesen , initially as a weekly supplement to the liberal-conservative daily Schwäbischer Merkur published in Stuttgart , soon afterwards as an independent magazine. The newspaper for the poor was published by the central management of the charity , which was founded in 1816 by Queen Katharina of Württemberg and which, after years of bad harvests, famine and high prices in Württemberg, was to develop extensive charity work.

First edition of the sheets for the poor

The magazine contained basic articles on poor relief and social aid work, reports from the charities at the time as well as the institutions and foundations of the State of Württemberg , a special emigration advisory service, short reports, book references and announcements of various kinds. Also more columnist pieces like the lovely description of a dog custody and considerations to the "economic importance of goat breeding in Württemberg" still had their place in the second half of the 19th century; Likewise, the editorial staff was occasionally able to help alleviate social grievances: “The editorial team received one Reichsmark for the man from Erkenbrechtsweiler who lost a cow and one Reichsmark for the man who had died in Heselbronn. Love never stops! "

Uninterrupted through the First World War , for 95 years, the magazine appeared until March 1943, when it was discontinued for "economic reasons". The first post-war edition appeared in January 1949.
