Blaenav by Ironworks

Blaenavon Ironworks is an industrial museum in Blaenavon , Wales . Founded in 1789, the ironworks were of crucial importance worldwide for the development of a process for making steel from cheap iron ores with a high sulfur content. Here, Sidney Gilchrist Thomas and his cousin Percy Gilchrist carried out the experiments that led to steel production using the " Thomas method ". The museum is located near Blaenavon, in Torfaen .

The museum is operated by Cadw .
