Blauer Heinrich (soup)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Blauer Heinrich is the popular name for a barley soup .

An explanation of this can be found in the dictionary of German colloquial language . According to this, the term Blauer Heinrich comes from the time of King Friedrich Wilhelm I of Prussia. Allegedly the arm director appointed by the king was called Heinrich. During his time, very thin soups were given to arms in tin bowls.

The term Blauer Heinrich was also used for groats soups that were prepared with skimmed milk . The use of the term in pictures and texts by Heinrich Zille for feeding the poor should also be understood against this background .
