The blue spiny iguanas ( Sceloporus cyanogenys ) lives in Mexico and southern Texas and inhabits dry, rocky landscapes.

It is characterized by a wide, black and white collar and very large, keeled scales with a point at the back. The tail scales are arranged in whorls. The lizards are 25 to 30 centimeters long. Their basic color is brown, the belly and throat, the males' back and tail are also blue. Furthermore, the male animals have more pronounced thigh spores. The head is broad and flattened, the limbs strong. The hind legs are longer than the front legs.

Blue barbed guans are ovoviviparous , the females give birth to 6 to 18 young.
