Blaues Haus is the name of the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Strasse 1 skyscraper in Dresden - Strehlen . It was originally built as an office building for the Institute for Labor Economics and Occupational Safety Research , and then used by its successors, the Central Labor Research Institute (ZFA) and the Central Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (ZIAS). Today it is a residential building. The listed building near Lennéplatz is considered "one of the most innovative buildings in Dresden around 1960".

description

The eight-story office building with a gallery floor was built from 1958 to 1960 as a reinforced concrete skeleton assembly building based on designs by the architects Alfred Gottfried and Georg Wolf. The facade shows a grid, with the parapet fields clad with blue Meissen ceramics. On the side, the gable was made of Elbe sandstone of the Cotta type .

The 31 meter high main building was built on a floor plan of 53.30 meters by 12.20 meters. The facade is divided into axes 2.50 meters apart.

At that time, the building offered space for 400 workplaces. The dining room had 100 seats, later a ballroom with 120 seats was added. There is a mural by Dietmar Gubsch on the outside facade of the lecture hall .

The building was placed under monument protection because of its “historically significant value”. The "execution of the main building ... is a high-quality example of 'GDR modernism'". This is due to the fact that the building "clearly shows the departure from building according to national tradition, which was propagated until the mid-1950s". "Building according to modern, functional models" and "following the progressive tendencies of classical modernism" characterize the architecture of the building.

After years of vacancy, the renovation and conversion to a residential building with around 60 apartments began in 2012.
