Blavatnik School of Government

The Blavatnik School of Government of the University of Oxford was founded in of 2010. It prepares students for activities in public, such as in the government sector, in the service of organizations and in business professions.

history

The school was made possible by a donation of 75 million pounds from the American businessman, billionaire and namesake Leonard Blavatnik , the idea for the foundation was the publisher George Weidenfeld . In addition to the donation, the university is using a further £ 26 million to build the school near the Radcliffe Observatory in Oxford by autumn 2015 . Prince William's school was officially inaugurated in May 2016 .

building

The architectural design of the buildings made available was drawn up in 2011 by the Herzog & de Meuron office from Basel , Switzerland . Because of the size of the buildings and the appearance of a marshmallow , there were various criticisms and protests from residents in 2013. The new building was made available to students until the end of 2015. In 2016 the building was one of the winners of the RIBA National Award from the Royal Institute of British Architects .

Study operation

A Master of Public Policy (MPP) course is offered at the school . The first 38 students began their studies in autumn 2012. For 2015, it was planned to accept 120 new students for the course.

New Zealand professor Ngaire Woods has been the dean of the university since October 2011 .
