Aperture (gunnery)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A screen in gunnery is a cover that covers endangered objects and parts of the terrain against direct and rebound shots. The width and height of the panels depend on the terrain they are to protect.

Types of apertures

A distinction is made between the following types:

  • Fade up
  • Deep apertures
  • Seitenbelden
  • Near blinds

The location and the dimensions of the bezels must be determined on a case-by-case basis, for example in Switzerland by the "Federal shooting range expert".

design type

The following types can be used:

Concrete panels must be at least 20 cm thick. Steel panels must have 10 mm thick steel plates with a tensile strength of 1200 N / mm 2 . Wooden panels with sand filling are only permitted for temporary buildings. These must have a sand filling of at least 20 cm thick and wooden boards of 27 mm thick for the wall.

Depending on the topographic conditions, a construction can combine all types of panels (high, side and low panels). All panels must be clad in 4 cm fir wood or 2 cm polyethylene as protection against splintering back in the firing direction . If the screen is more than 50 m away from the shooter, the fairing is not necessary.
