Blind information system

The BLIS (abbreviation of " Bl inden i nformation s ystem") a passenger information system, which is particularly visually impaired people an easy and secure way of using public transport opened.

For this purpose, the passengers are equipped with a mini radio transmitter on which three buttons are attached. A coded data telegram is sent to the vehicle each time the button is pressed. When the train or bus arrives, the passenger can press button 1, then the route and destination are announced through the external loudspeakers on the vehicle. If the passenger presses button 2, an acoustic and optical message is displayed to the driver on the IBIS device ( integrated on-board information system ). The driver can now concentrate particularly on the barrier-free change of passengers for the disabled. If the disabled passenger is sitting in the vehicle, he can use button 3 to repeat the stop announcement if he does not understand it.

DVB AG ( Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe AG) uses this system for the first time in Germany ; since 2005 all new vehicles there have been provided with BLIS. Something similar is used in Prague . All low-floor vehicles are equipped .
