Blue Knights
The Blue Knights ( German Blue Knights ) was founded in 1974 as an association of motorcycle police officers in the United States . The headquarters of the Blue Knights International Motorcycle Club is located in Bangor, Maine . The club name was derived from a series of the same name that was broadcast on American television at the time and was about police officers.
In the years that followed, this idea spread across the United States, Canada, and Australia . In 1989 the idea was brought to Europe , where there are chapters (independent sub-divisions) in many countries. There are 39 chapters in Germany. With over 24,000 members in over 600 chapters worldwide, the Blue Knights are one of the largest motorcycle clubs . In addition to the Blue Knights, a number of other Law Enforcement Motorcycle Clubs ( LEMC ) are known and active.
The goals of the Blue Knights are to promote motorcycle touring, promote international understanding and global unity, as well as financial and material support for non-profit, charitable and social institutions, organizations and foundations. They also promote safety in touring by improving and purchasing passive safety equipment (e.g. protectors) and provide practical support in matters of active driving safety.
Anyone who is a police officer, customs investigation officer or prison officer, owns a motorcycle and has the appropriate driving license can become a member of a chapter . Exceptions to this rule are allowed. The members have the opportunity to take part in local, national and international meetings and get-togethers with their families and to organize them.
Related and friendly clubs are the Red Knights International Firefighters Motorcycle Club , the club for motorcycle-riding firefighters, and the Green Knights Military Motorcycle Club, the club for motorcycle-riding soldiers.
