Building Blumenstrasse 1 in Altensteig

The building at Blumenstrasse 1 in Altensteig , a town in the Calw district in Baden-Württemberg , was built in 1483 by Wilhelm von Urbach through a beneficiary foundation.

One half of the house remained in private ownership until 1835, the other half was used as a chaplain . Since the Reformation , this half became a diaconate in 1556 and a council clerk in 1664.

The gable-facing building on a hillside, which is two-story towards the market square, consists of a massive ground floor. It has a protruding, plastered half -timbered upper storey and a three-storey half-timbered gable with overlaying and three storeys on the valley side above a high quarry stone base . The lower two are clapboard, the third and the gable are boarded up. The steep gable roof has a half hip in the south and a dormer in the east.

Extensive renovations took place in 1759. From 1782 to 1822 a girls' school ( upper school ) was housed in the building. In 1823 the Mohren landlord Jakob Friedrich Rothfuß bought this house half and in 1835 also acquired the other half of the house. From 1850 to 1904 the Gasthaus Zur Blume existed in the building . In 1920 the city bought the house and remodeled it.

The former chaplaincy is one of the oldest preserved buildings in Altensteig. It is a characteristic example of the late medieval town houses and craftsmen's houses that dominated Altensteiger Oberstadt .
