The Boali Dam is a reservoir in the Ombella-Mpoko region of the Central African Republic .

geography

It is located directly on the RN 1, about 80 km north of the state capital Bangui and 35 km north of the city of Boali , which gives the building its name. The lake is 28 km long, 7 km wide at its widest point and has many branches. It is located in the Oubangui basin and is fed by the M'Bali , which is a tributary of the Mpoko .

Properties of the structure

The Boali I was put into operation in 1955, with a height of 52 m, a water outlet of 4 m³ / s and an output of 8.75 MW. Between 1989 and 1991 Boali II, designed by Coyne & Bellier , built by China International Water & Electric Corporation and owned by the National Energy Agency Energie Centrafricaine (ENERCA), was put into operation. The two plants have a combined output of 18.75 MW. Boali III is under construction and Boali IV is in planning.

Interactions with the environment

Due to the operation of the dam, the Boali Falls (a sight in the region) have almost dried up on weekdays and are supplied with more water for tourism on weekends.
