Bobbes

A bobbes (also Berlin bobbes or Mainz bobbes ) is a fine baked product made from rolled shortcrust pastry or yeast dough, which is filled with masses of oil seeds or fruits. Most often they are covered with sprinkles and dusted with powdered sugar. Sometimes other ingredients are also used.

Nothing more is known about the origin of the name "Bobbes". He is z. Sometimes called "Berliner Bobbes", but is also common in Cologne, southern Germany (around Freiburg) and around Hanover, for example.

In contrast, the bobbes in the Frankfurt am Main and southern Hesse area is the butt (belittling) - mostly of a child.
