Platyptilia is a widespread genus in the family of feather moths (Pterophoridae).

features

The discal triangle on the forewings is well developed in most species. The R1 vein is present on the forewings, and a so-called scaly tooth is placed in the middle of the third wing lobe.

distribution

The representatives of the genus Platyptilia are native to the Holarctic , South America and the Afrotropic and Indo-Australian regions.

Way of life

The caterpillars live on the Asteraceae .

The type species of the genus Platyptilia is Platyptilia gonodactyla [Denis & Schiffermüller] , 1775. Of the more than 100 known species worldwide, seven also occur in Europe.
