Bocas del Toro is the provincial and district capital of the Bocas del Toro province and the district of the same name within the province of the Central American state of Panama .

The city had around 12,996 inhabitants in 2008 and is located on the island of Colón . The local airport Aeropuerto Internacional de Bocas del Toro "Isla Colón" can be reached by plane from San José and Panama City . The city is also connected to the Panamanian mainland with the port city of Almirante, from where boats run daily.

The city is the tourist center of the archipelago and attracts many visitors every year with a variety of bars, restaurants and hostels.

All places on the island are easily accessible by bike (which can be rented everywhere), which is, however, made considerably more difficult in the rainy season, as many roads on the island are not paved and develop into mud slopes.
