The Colón Island ( Spanish Isla Colón ) is one of seven larger islands in the Bocas del Toro archipelago in the Bocas del Toro province of the same name on the north coast of Panama on the Atlantic Ocean.
It is just under an hour's drive plus half an hour by water taxi from the Costa Rican border, which is used by most tourists. Colón is the Spanish name for Columbus , who “discovered” the main island and set up a refreshment station here. The capital of the island and the archipelago is Bocas del Toro . Its architecture was based on the colonial style with many western French and Spanish elements. After the administration and the decision of the banana company to move the main office to Changuinola , many houses were neglected out of necessity, and empty ones fell into disrepair.
