The Boeing Cargo Air Vehicle is an unmanned, self-steering, electrically powered cargo aircraft (CAV) that can take off and land vertically . It was made possible by an investment from Boeing HorizonX Ventures.

development

At the beginning, the prototype was remote-controlled, but then switched to autonomous flight. The first flight attempts were made in 2017. The CAV is used to research self-control for aerospace vehicles of the future. Further flight tests took place in Boeing's Ridley Park wind tunnel. 2018 was still flown indoors. The first outdoor flight was at the beginning of May 2019. With the Boeing CAV there are new possibilities to transport urgent and high-value goods, as well as to carry out autonomous missions in remote or dangerous environments.
