Bogofilter is a filter program that can be used to sort out unwanted e-mails . Bogofilter was first developed by Eric S. Raymond , but has been further developed by a larger group of developers since 2002 and is free software .

The program is written in the C programming language and runs very quickly. Unlike SpamAssassin , for example , it relies only on statistical algorithms ( Bayesian filter ), including those from the article "A plan for spam" by Paul Graham .

Bogofilter can be integrated into a mail system in different ways, but requires the interaction with the user who has to classify mails as spam or not spam. If the program has been trained sufficiently, very good recognition rates are possible, as with comparable programs.
