The Bogyoke Aung San Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Yangon , Myanmar . It was named after the Burmese military leader Aung San (1915–1947). The stadium officially offers space for 40,000 spectators. It includes a covered grandstand with seats as well as uncovered standing room on the other sides. It is the largest stadium in Myanmar and was the country's national stadium until the 1980s. The Southeast Asian Games were played here in 1961 and 1969 .
Myanmar National League matches are held regularly at Bogyoke Aung San Stadium . As there are only a few stadiums in Myanmar, various clubs from all over the country play in the Bogyoke Aung San Stadium. International games are now taking place in the more modern Thuwanna Stadium . The local club Yangon United also no longer plays games in the Aung San Stadium and now plays in the Yangon United Sports Complex or also in the Thuwanna Stadium.
In addition to the open-air stadium, there is the "Aung San National Indoor Stadium" for indoor competitions.
