Name-giving basis: Bombay Sapphire Gin
Kumquats

Bombay Crushed is a cocktail made from gin and kumquats , the name of which goes back to the gin brand Bombay Sapphire . It should not be confused with the classic Bombay cocktail made from vermouth and brandy. In preparation and taste, Bombay Crushed is reminiscent of the classic caipirinha , but is less acidic.

Bombay Crushed was developed in the 1990s as a signature drink for the Bombay Sapphire, which was introduced in 1987, in order to promote sales of the brand as an advertising medium . In Germany, the cocktail became very popular, while it is rarely found in other countries.

As with every cocktail, different mixing ratios and preparation methods are possible. The standard work Cocktailian recommends crushing 6–8 halved kumquats with 2–3 teaspoons of white cane sugar in a cocktail shaker with a pestle, then adding 6 cl gin (e.g. Bombay Sapphire) and optionally 3 dashes (sprinkles) of lime juice , everything Shake vigorously with ice cubes and finally pour the entire contents of the shaker into the guest glass. It is served with a short straw. Alternatively, the drink can also be prepared completely in the tumbler , from which it is also drunk, and is filled with crushed ice.
