Bonus Socius
The name Bonus Socius ( Latin for "good companion") is a manuscript of 194 chess problems and other board games originally written in Latin . One copy is in the National Library in Florence . The parchment is dated around 1266. The Italian scholar Boncompagno da Signa is believed to be the author . However, this hypothesis is controversial. Other sources assume that the university teacher Nicholas de St. Nicholai was the author around 1295.
