Book origami

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Book origami (Bookorigami, Orimoto, book folding art) is a manual work in which artistic objects are created by folding book pages in open books.

The palette ranges from numbers and letters to whole words. Another variation is the folding of complex structures. It is important to work precisely, as even the slightest deviation in the lines would impair the overall impression. To achieve the three-dimensional effect, every single page of the book is creased. The book origami itself is not cut, as the work of art would then lose volume. However, the book block can be cut horizontally up to the spine in order to create multi-level reliefs . Another form of paper folding technique are books folded around their own axis. To do this, the spines are removed and the pages folded.

Book origami are primarily decorative. The folded books are also suitable as note holders and bookends. Tree hangings or jewelry can be made from mini-books.
