Urs Schwarz (journalist)

Urs Schwarz (born February 25, 1905 in Zurich ; † October 12, 1996 there ), reformed , entitled to live in Lenzburg and Zurich, was a Swiss editor and university professor .

Life

Urs Schwarz, son of the advocate Moritz Emil Theodor Schwarz and Anna née Bertschinger, devoted himself to studying law at the University of Zurich after completing his Matura , which he obtained in 1928 with the academic degree of Dr. iur. completed. He then completed a commercial and insurance technical training, in 1931 he studied with the help of a fellowship at Harvard Law School , and from 1932 to 1934 he worked for Zurich Insurance in Barcelona .

After completing an internship in the editorial office of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung in the same year, he worked for the newspaper as a foreign correspondent in Paris in 1935 , from 1936 to 1939 during the civil war in Spain and from 1940 to 1941 in Berlin during the Second World War . After being appointed NZZ editor, he held this position until his resignation in 1965. In 1968 he took up a professorship for strategy at the Institut universitaire de hautes études internationales in Geneva , which he held until 1976.

Urs Schwarz - he co-founded the International Press Institute and the English-language NZZ edition Swiss Review of World Affairs in 1950 as well as a member of the Institute for Strategic Studies and its Executive Committee in London - has emerged as the author of both historical and strategic articles. His activity as Spain correspondent was characterized by a Franco-friendly reporting.
