Border Force is a department of the Home Office which is responsible for securing national borders. The agency carries out entry and customs controls at 140 rail, air and sea ports in Great Britain . There are also several hundred smaller ports and airports.
Border Force Officers are not police officers. However, senior officers are empowered to arrest conduct-abrupt individuals under Section 2 of the Borders Act 2007 and keep them in custody until the police officers arrive. These powers also apply at the checkpoints in Belgium and France.

The department was created through the dissolution of the previous UK Border Agency.
Responsibilities
- Checking the immigration status of people arriving and departing in the UK.
- Searching luggage, vehicles and cargo for illegal goods or illegal immigrants.
- Patrol and secure the British coast.
- Gathering information and notifying security services of unusual activity.

Border Force has five operational areas: Central, Heathrow, North, Southeast and Europe. The tasks of the areas of application are diverse. In addition to the actual border security, people, goods, mail and rail traffic including the Eurostar from Brussels and Paris to St Pancras International and the Eurotunnel from Coquelles to Folkstone are monitored.
