The Borgward B 611 was a small van from Borgward -Werke in Bremen with a payload of up to 1.8 tons (nominally 1½ tons ). It was presented in 1957 under the name Borgward B 1500 F as a front-link transporter ( F = front-link) and referred to in the brochures as a 1 1/2 to front-link vehicle. It was not until 1959 that the name was changed to B 611 . It was available as a panel van , minibus (BO 611) and as a pickup or flatbed truck with foldable side walls. It was supposed to complement the Borgward B 1500 or from 1959 B 511 called hood truck.

engine and gears

The engine of the steering wheel was installed between the driver and passenger seats. There was a choice of two water-cooled four-stroke four-cylinder engines, namely the 1.5-liter gasoline engine from the Borgward Isabella with an output of 60 hp (44 kW) or the 1.8-liter diesel engine from the Borgward Hansa 1800 with 42 hp (31 kW). Both versions had the fully synchronized four-speed gearbox with steering wheel shift of the Borgward B 1500. The maximum speed with a gasoline engine was 92 km / h, with a diesel engine 75 km / h.

Chassis and body

Borgward B 611 flatbed truck

The B 611 had a lead frame from lengthwise rectangular sheet metal profiles with cross- traverses , the front suspension on suspension arms with coil springs, a rear rigid axle with leaf springs. The engine, clutch, gearbox, radiator and the front suspension were taken up by a subframe. The driver's cab of the flatbed truck was generously glazed all around, had narrow pillars and offered a good overview. The rear wall of this cabin and the rear wall of the bus were structurally identical in the interests of efficient production, and this component was also used in the panel van with only minor changes.

The vehicle had a wheelbase of 2600 mm. The bus and the panel van were 5100 mm long, the flatbed truck 5200 mm. The width was uniformly 2100 mm, the height 2230 mm and 2180 mm (platform). With a relatively tight turning circle of 10.8 m, the car was particularly suitable for use in the city.

construction time

Production of the Borgward B 611 ended in 1961. 14,748 units were produced.
