The Borowkow-Florow I-207 ( Russian Боровков-Флоров И-207 ) was a Soviet fighter aircraft that was designed as a single-seat biplane .
development
The start of development for project no. 7211 was in 1935 and the first flight took place in May 1937 under test pilot L. M. Maximow. The special thing about this aircraft was its small size and the cantilevered, non-braced wings, which was unusual for a biplane. In March 1938 a test series of four machines was built and given the designation I-207 (Istrebitel = fighter plane). The aircraft received different engines, so the M-62 and the M-63 with and without reduction gears. From the third prototype, the chassis was designed to be retractable. Airplane No. 4 received a three-bladed propeller and first flew in the spring of 1941.
Since biplanes were already obsolete at that time, this type was not built in series, but it was used as a test vehicle for the ramjet engines DM-2 and DM-4 from Igor Merkulow , which were mounted under the wings (see also I-153 ).
