Alexei Borowkow ( Russian Алексей Андреевич Боровков ., Wiss transliteration Alexei Andreevič Borovkov ; * 1903 ; † 1945 ) was a Soviet aircraft designer .

life and work

In 1935, Borowkow and Ilya Florentjewitsch Florow designed an unusual biplane aircraft that managed without wing struts, the Borowkow-Florow I-207 . After the appropriate preparations, the machine should go into production. To this end, he and Florow became chief designer of the OKB-207, which was founded in Dolgoprudnyi in autumn 1938.

Later Borowkow dealt with ramjet engines . A fighter aircraft based on this experience, the Borowkow-Florow BF-D , which had a piston engine and two vertical stabilizers and integrated ramjet engines, was in development. This extremely advanced design already had an arrow-shaped structure.

In July 1941, after the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War , the development office had to be evacuated. The almost completed dummy was lost. The project has been discontinued.

Borowkow was killed in an airplane accident in early 1945.
