Bortala (also Bole ; Chinese  博樂 市  /  博乐 市 , Pinyin Bólè Shì ; Uighur بۆرتالا شەھىرى, Bɵrtala Xəⱨiri ; Mongolian ᠪᠣᠷᠣᠲᠠᠯ᠎ᠠ ) is an independent city in the Mongolian Autonomous District of Bortala in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China . Bortala is the capital of the autonomous region .

In 1999 it had 212,969 inhabitants.
