Alashankou ( Chinese  阿拉山口 市 , Pinyin Ālāshānkǒu Shì ; Uighur ﺋﺎﻻﺗﺎﯞ ﺋﯧﻐﯩﺰﻯ Alataw Eƣizi ; Mongolian ᠠᠯᠠᠭ ᠠᠭᠤᠯᠠ ) is a county-level city in the Mongolian Autonomous County Bortala the Uygur Autonomous Region of Xinjiang of the People's Republic of China . On December 29, 2012, the newly founded city emerged from a large municipality of Bortala . It is named after the Djungarian gate (Chinese: Alashankou ) and is located on the border with Kazakhstan .
