Borve Castle

Borve Castle , also Castle Wearie or Scottish Gaelic Caisteal Bhuirgh , is the ruin of a residential tower in the southwest of the island of Benbecula , part of the Scottish administrative unit Outer Hebrides . The architects McGibbon and Ross attributed the construction of the tower to Amie mac Ruari ( Amy of Garmoran ) to the wife of John of Islay and dated it between 1344 and 1363. The MacDonalds of Benbecula lived there until the beginning of the 17th century.

The ruin of the residential tower covers an area of ​​18 × 11 meters and is 9 meters high. Its walls are up to 2.7 meters thick. The entrance in the south wall led to the first floor of the three-story building. The ruins are considered a Scheduled Monument .
