The Botanical Gardens Reykjavík ( lat. Hortus Botanicus Reykjavicensis ; . Isl Grasagarður Reykjavíkur or Grasagarðurinn ) is the largest botanical garden Islands .

It was founded in 1961 on the occasion of the 175th anniversary of the city of Reykjavík and has an area of ​​2.5 hectares on which over 5000 species can be found. The garden is a member of the Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) and has the code REYK .

The Botanical Garden collects native and non-native species. The plants are marked with their Icelandic and scientific ("Latin") name and their origin is noted. The Botanical Garden has the following nine collections:

  • Plants of the forest floor
  • Tree collection

  • Rock garden
  • Gourmet garden

The botanical garden is open all year round.
