The Bottroper Billard Akademie is a billiards club that offers the disciplines of carom and, since 1988, pool billiards . In the collision, the club provides teams for both the 1st Bundesliga three cushion and the 2nd Bundesliga three cushion . After the 2016/17 season, the club was unable to form a league team due to a lack of players.

Founded as "Billard-Gesellschaft Bottrop 1924" (BG Bottrop 24), the association gave itself its current name in 2011.

history

The association was founded in 1924 in the restaurant “Große-Wilde” in Bottrop-Eigen under the name “Billard-Gesellschaft Bottrop 1924”, or “BG Bottrop 24” for short. The game was initially started with one team, later with a second team at the district level. After the war, the association quickly reorganized and was first city champion in 1946, 1947 and 1948. The BG had to play up again first. This was achieved, among other things, with the help of Josef Janzen, German champion in the three-way fight in 1950 and 1952, who joined the club in 1954 and led it into the 1st regional league. In 1957 the first gold medal came at the Westphalia Championship, and four more were added by 1968. Until then, the medals had all been won at the small table .

As early as 1964, the BG, with great support from the player and clubhouse operator Johannes Große-Wilde, purchased match billiards. When the German champion Norbert Witte (Cadre 47/2 - 1964, cover - 1963, 1967, 1968 and 1969) only came for training, he later joined the club. With the large table, the club created the prerequisites for participation in the three-cushion Bundesliga, which was founded in 1967, making it one of the first six Bundesliga clubs.

The 1st team was relegated from the 1st Bundesliga in 1999 and could only be promoted again in 2012. A year later they finished in third place. In 2019, the 2nd team was relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga. Her greatest successes include the championship title in the 2nd division, the three-time runner-up in the 1st division and the four victories in the German Cup Team Championship (DPMM) and team cup (since 2019).

Christian Rudolph , who has been national coach since March 2019, is one of the regular players .
