Box set

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A box set (also boxed set , English box set written) is a compilation of several LPs , CDs or DVDs , which is sold in special packaging and turns primarily to collectors.

Formats

There are two types of packaging:

  • A book-shaped CD folder in the format 14 cm × 25 cm, which consists of recesses for three to four CDs or DVDs and a multi-page booklet in the same format, which is either bound to the cover or enclosed loosely. A special form is the earbook , in which the book character is even more pronounced.
  • A slipcase made of cardboard that holds three or four discs with empty cases ( jewel cases ) and possibly has a hinged lid.

Content concepts

  • CDs are grouped together that are also available individually in the same form and contain the original cover or cover sheets.
  • New music or video material (or a combination of the two) will be put together to provide previously unreleased material (B-sides from previous vinyl singles, demo recordings , new mixes ( Remix ) or unreleased tracks that had no space on previous studio albums)
  • A compilation of the best or most successful titles from an artist's creative period: a super “best of” or a complete discography .
