Publishing history

The Brönner children's book publisher was based in Frankfurt am Main and was last called Umschau Verlag Breidenstein KG.

The publishing house published numerous non-fiction and film books in series for children in the 1970s. There were fairy tale and picture books for the little ones. The books were characterized by a simple, understandable language and their colored illustrations with original design and partly innovative technology (e.g. three-dimensional images when opening, holograms ). Knowledge is imparted in a playful, but very blunt manner - from learning to count to traffic studies with the cat peter .

The best known and most extensive is probably the series My First Library . The first 38 volumes were translated from English into German in 1971 and 1972, as were many other titles. Volumes 39–44 from 1976 and volumes 45–52 from 1978 are rarer. Another non-fiction book series of five volumes was So was it earlier .

The collaboration with the Augsburger Puppenkiste is remarkable . In addition to other film heroes such as Peter the Cat or the Paddington Bear , the puppet theater figures were also published in book format. The series by the animal-loving boy Mischa was also very popular in 1972/73. She achieved her impact not least through the illustrations by Dominique and Edith Robin.
