The Brösedenkmal in the Krugpark

The Brösedenkmal is a monument in Brandenburg an der Havel . It was built in 1851 in honor of the master chimney sweep and city councilor Johann Gottfried Bröse (1786–1849) in the Krugpark and commemorates his contribution to the creation of the park.

location

At his donation, the monument was erected on the way from the restaurant Zum Neuen Krug - a popular excursion restaurant for the Brandenburg population in the suburb of Wilhelmsdorf - to the founding stone of the Krugpark. After the parts had been re-cast, it was moved to its current location in the center of the park in September 1985.

history

Inspired by the idea of creating horticultural facilities, the chimney sweep Bröse had the path to the Zum Neuen Krug restaurant laid out and planted in 1824 . A year later he was given permission to convert the restoration in front of the restaurant into a park. This is how the Krugpark was created until 1834.

Two years after the death of Bröse, who has meanwhile been appointed chairman of the local beautification commission, a memorial was erected for him on the occasion of his 65th birthday in September 1851 by the magistrate of Brandenburg an der Havel. The citizens of the city thanked him for his initiatives to create the park and numerous promenade facilities on the former fortifications of Brandenburg and the Marienberg.

In 1985 the parts of the monument were re-cast and on September 26, 1985 they were rebuilt at their current location in the center of the park. In 1993 it was restored. Since the condition of the monument and its base had suffered badly, the monument was completely dismantled in 2018, dismantled into its components and refurbished and restored by a local metal construction company.

description

The monument is a cast-iron turret in neo-Gothic shapes. It was cast in the Ilsenburg ironworks in the Harz Mountains. It is located on a sandstone plinth, to which two steps lead. A tower modeled on a pinnacle is placed centrally on a solid base on a shortened, cross-shaped floor plan .
