The bridge festival is an annual open-air event in Nuremberg . The festival started in 2001 with around 500 visitors and takes place regularly on two days on a weekend in mid-August under and next to the Theodor-Heuss-Brücke in Nuremberg (on the Westring on the meadow in the Pegnitztal- West landscape protection area ). Around 20,000 visitors were counted in 2017.
concept
Similar to the Bardentreffen, a concept is pursued on two stages that is intended to provide a public platform for lesser-known bands away from the mainstream. The main stage directly under the bridge is intended to appeal to younger target groups with predominantly rock bands , a smaller tent stage is available for cabaret and music from other genres. According to its own statements, the festival is aimed at “a broad, culturally open audience”. The festival is mainly financed by voluntary donations as well as space rentals by the restaurateurs and traders who provide the visitors with food and goods at stands (under the bridge) and tents (on the rest of the site). A smaller part of the festival is also open to sponsors. The organizers are volunteers. The motivation arose initially from a dissatisfaction with the cultural offerings in Nuremberg, both from the official side of the city and from the fact that the big well-known bands performed under-proportionally in Nuremberg. It should be organized “out of the music scene”, but serve the “very individual taste of the organizing team” regardless of a certain scene or common trends.
The festival sees itself today as part of the Nuremberg cultural summer.
