Brandiskirchen is a desert and a ground monument of the city of Saalfeld / Saale in the district of Saalfeld-Rudolstadt in Thuringia .

history

The 14 deserted areas mentioned in 1370, including Brandiskirchen, had the following career: in the 12th century, the abbot of the Benedictine monastery of Saalfeld had a pilgrimage church built near the Poppersdorf settlement . As early as 1454 the village was deserted. The St. Brandis Church was used as a pilgrimage church. After the dissolution of the monastery, the church fell into oblivion. It was not until 1924 that the foundation walls were discovered and had them exposed. From 2001 to 2002 they were restored and declared a ground monument.
