The Bransfield Trough is a lake basin between the Antarctic Peninsula and the northeastern end of the South Shetland archipelago .

It is named after the British navigator Edward Bransfield (1785–1852), possibly the first person to see the Antarctic mainland. The designation has been confirmed by the Advisory Committee for Undersea Features (ACUF) since 1977 .
