Brewing year

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In some areas of Europe, the brewing year is the year of production in the brewing industry . It differs from the calendar year and lasts from October 1st to September 30th of the following year.

Before the introduction of refrigeration systems in the 1870s, bottom-fermented beer could only be produced in some regions during the cold season. The season traditionally lasted from Michael’s Day (29 September) to St. George’s Day (23 April).

The start of the brewing year was later postponed to October 1st. September 30th is celebrated as a brewing New Year in the industry .
