Architecture and history

The building goes on the 14./15. Century back and served as a residence for the management of the choir boys school of the cathedral. It is named after William de Braybrook (1298–1319). A former north wing was replaced in 1714 by the Wren Hall school building, which still exists today. The first custodian Alexander de Hemingsby , who worked from 1304 to 1334, lived in Braybrooke House . At the end of the 15th century, William Osgodby lived in the building. From 1554 to 1559, the Treasurer of the Cathedral Thomas Harding lived in Braybrooke House until he lost his position during the Reformation due to his support for the Catholic Church. In the same year the headmaster Christopher Bennet took over the house. He was succeeded in 1564 by headmaster John Bold. From this point on, the place of residence was linked to the office of headmaster.

The facade of the two-story brick building has five axes, with the entrance to the house in the middle axis of the ground floor. The house entrance is protected by a small canopy crowned with a triangular gable. The building edges are provided with a corner cuboid. The cornice protrudes. The building is covered with a tile-covered gable roof on which there are two dormers on the street side.

An elongated two-storey wing extends to the west, which also includes older buildings.

Inside there is a staircase from the 18th century and a room with Rococo stucco work. There are also remains of a half-timbered structure in the older part of the building .

The building has been listed as a memorial since February 28, 1952.
