Brecha , Spanish for “breach”, “breakthrough”, is a Spanish-language Uruguayan weekly newspaper from Montevideo . It can be classified on the left in the political spectrum, but is not party-bound. The newspaper was founded in the final phase of the military dictatorship in 1983 in the tradition of the Marcha , which was previously banned by the military . The new market entry took place in October 1985. Co-founders and editors were, among others, Samuel Blixen and the journalist and writer Mario Benedetti , as well as other surviving Marcha employees . In 1989, in the run-up to the referendum of that year on the Ley de Caducidad , the Brecha, together with the weekly newspaper Zeta, organized a campaign aimed at rejecting this amnesty law. Professor Raúl Zibechi is one of the current editors of Brecha .
