Brecon and Merthyr Tydfil Junction Railway

The Brecon and Merthyr Tydfil Junction Railway (B & MTJR) was a railway company in South Wales .

history

The company received on August 1, 1859 the concession to build a railway line from Brecon to Talybont . On May 15, 1860 and July 28, 1862 the company received the concessions for the remaining sections of the route. The section from Brecon to Talybont was opened on April 23, 1863, followed by the line to Merthyr Tydfil on August 1, 1868 and the line to Dowlais on June 23, 1869 . The latter was built and operated jointly with the London and North Western Railway .

On July 5, 1865 there was a merger with the Hereford, Hay and Brecon Railway . Since errors occurred during the approval process, the merger was declared inadmissible and not attempted again later. On July 28, 1863 the Rumney Railway was acquired. This gave the company access to the port of Newport from September 1, 1868 .

On January 1, 1922, the company was taken over by Great Western Railway .
