Wide wagon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A wide carriage is optionally used for manually and electromechanically operated typewriters with type levers . Usually, a typewriter page in DIN A4 format fits in lengthways as portrait format. Typewriters with wide carts accept paper in at least A3 format landscape (corresponds to 42 cm passage width ).

Sometimes wagons with 12 instead of the usual 10 inch roller width are referred to as wide wagons. 12 inches corresponds to a good 30.5 cm width, here an A3 sheet can be clamped in portrait format or an A4 sheet across.

The carriage carries the platen and all paper holding functions. It is mounted on a rail and pulls a spiral spring mechanism via a pull rope when the carriage returns. With each type stop, a step switch ensures that the carriage is transported one position further via the pull rope and the stored energy in the associated spring mechanism.

Replacing a car requires knowledge and fine mechanical skills.
