Brewster Aeronautical Corporation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Brewster Aeronautical Corporation was an American aircraft manufacturer based in Long Island City in the state of New York . It emerged from the long-established Brewster & Company , which was involved in the construction of carriages and later automobiles.

Initially, the aviation division only manufactured aircraft parts. In 1934 the first custom design was designed: the two-seater Brewster SBA . The company only built two more of its own designs in series. The F2A Buffalo and the SB2A Buccaneer / Bermuda. The Chance Vought F4U , known as the F3A, was built under license in larger numbers (735 copies) . Another order for 773 copies of this type was canceled at the end of the war.

Towards the end of the Second World War , economic problems increased and mismanagement eventually led to the collapse of the company.
