Brianna Fruean (born May 18, 1998 in Auckland , New Zealand ) is an activist and environmental ambassador for Samoa . She is studying at the University of Auckland .

Life

At the age of eleven, Fruean became one of the founding members of 350 Samoa and leader of the environmental group “Future Rush” . The two organizations do different projects to combat global warming and try to promote sustainable development through mindfulness programs in schools and communities in Samoa and the region. In 2011 she organized another protest on behalf of Moving Planet Samoa . She organized a run that brought together more than 100 people to demonstrate for awareness of climate change in Samoa and around the world.

Fruean participated in the UNEP Children's Conferences in Korea in 2009 and Japan in 2010 and was sent to the Rio + 20 Summit as a Pacific Youth Ambassador and part of the PACMAS Pacific Media Team as a youth reporter. Her news and daily blogs were published by the Samoa Observer . Brianna was one of the youngest at the Rio + 20 Summit.

In 2011 she took part in the UN Small Island Developing State Conference in Apia , Samoa as an ILO youth representative and delegate of the Young Women's Christian Association . At the conference it was presented as a Bright Spot by the Global Island Partnership .

Brianna is always working on various campaigns against climate change and early education through peer-to-peer education. At the conferences she represents the youth perspective. Brianna received the Pacific Region Commonwealth Youth Award at the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Awards . At the age of 16, Fruean is the youngest winner of the Commonwealth Youth Award.

Brianna was hired by the Pacific Regional Environment Program (SPREP) as the first youth ambassador. In her first official act she attended the workshop Regional Resilience to Climate Change and its Consequences from April 23 to 27 in New Caledonia .
