Bribir (Skradin)
Bribir is a village in Šibenik-Knin County , southern Croatia , about 15 kilometers northeast of the town of Skradin . Next to the village, on a high plateau, there is a well-known late medieval place called Bribirska glavica .
Founded in ancient Illyrian times, the settlement later developed as Varvaria , a Roman municipality . The Croatians settled the ruins of the municipality in the 7th century and called them Bribir.
The history of the place reached its climax in the 13th and 14th centuries, when the most powerful Croatian family Šubić had their seat in Bribir. The members of the family carried the title of Prince of Bribir and became the Bane (viceroys) of Croatia . They built a palace on Bribirska glavica , an ideal place from which to exercise control over the surrounding area. Today only the foundations of the palace remain.
According to the 2001 census, the number of inhabitants in the village was 79.
