history
Skradin was already settled in Illyrian times and is one of the oldest cities in Croatia. In the 2nd century they submitted to the Romans . In the Middle Ages, the powerful Šubić family from Bribir owned the place. Between 1522 and 1684 it was ruled by the Ottoman Empire , then again by the Republic of Venice until 1794 . It was later occupied by Napoleon as part of the French Empire, then by Austria-Hungary. During that time it lost its importance as the center of the region, which moved to Šibenik and so stagnated.
The main attraction of the Slapovi Krke natural reservoir is a series of waterfalls, the largest of which, Skradinski Buk , is named after the town. Dramatic scenes from the Winnetou film " The Oil Prince " were filmed at this waterfall .
