It is located 10 km northwest of Šibenik on the Adriatic coast and, according to the 2011 census, has 8,875 inhabitants, 94.30% of them Croatians.

Vodice is a popular tourist destination, and therefore summer tourism is the main industry of Vodice. In surveys, it has been named the third most popular Dalmatian coastal city for several years in a row. Most of the residents of Vodice provide accommodation for tourists, be it in hotels, apartments, or rooms.

history

The place was founded as Arausa during the Roman rule over Dalmatia . Vodice was first mentioned in historical documents in 1402 when the construction of the Church of Sv. Križ began. The name of the town derives from the word voda for water, with which Vodice supplied the surrounding area at that time. The defensive walls and the Ćorić tower (Croatian: Ćorićev toranj ) from the times of the Turkish conquests bear witness to these past times.

Attractions

Other monuments worth seeing in Vodice are the old Church of the Finding of the Cross (Croatian: Sveti Križ ), completed in 1421, and the parish church in the city center, built in 1746. Two kilometers from the city center, on Mount Okit, is the newly built Church of the Holy Mother of God of Mount Carmel. Okit offers a wonderful view of the whole area around Vodice, Prvić, Zlarin and other offshore islands.
