The Bridge of Teith is a road bridge in the Scottish Council Area of Stirling . In 1971 the building was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in the highest category A. A former additional classification as a Scheduled Monument was lifted in 2001.
history
The bridge was built in 1535 by Robert Spittel (also Spittal ), a royal court tailor. There are no more traces of a chapel on the bridge parapet, which is still documented in the 19th century. In 1866 the bridge on the west side facing upstream was widened to double its width.
description
The masonry viaduct is located on the southern edge of Doune. He leads the trunk road A84 ( Stirling - Lochearnhead ) between Doune and Deanston with two bricked segment arches over the river Teith . A coat of arms plate is embedded in the parapet of the arched bridge . A replica of this slab was also embedded in the opposite parapet as part of the expansion.
