A letter holder , also known as a letter stand , is a technical device for placing or filing several letters, usually vertically. It is often part of a writing set, also called a desk set.

A letter holder is a device, typically with one or three trays, for sorting letters. They are made of plastic, metal, wood or other materials, and are often decorated with decoration or made of high quality materials.

One of the first independent product designers, Christopher Dresser (* 1834; † 1904), designed the letter holder No. 2556 in 1881, which was influenced by the Japanese style.

In exhibitions

A letter holder from Goethe , which he had received from his daughter-in-law for his 50th anniversary in service, was exhibited in a special exhibition at the Bundespostmuseum in 1966 .
