Brigitte Urban

Brigitte Urban is a German biologist and professor of soil science at the University of Lüneburg .

Life

Urban studied biology in Cologne. She did her PhD in Dr. rer. nat. at the University of Stuttgart-Hohenheim and then taught as a professor of soil science and biology at the former Northeast Lower Saxony University of Applied Sciences in Suderburg . She is also an honorary professor and lecturer at the Geoscientific Faculty of the University of Tübingen for Quaternary vegetation and environmental history. Today she is Professor of Ecology in Lüneburg, with a focus on landscape change at the LEUPHANA University.

Teaching and working area

She conducts her teaching and research on the subjects of biology (ecology), geosciences (soil science) and global change (resource management).

Commitment and memberships

Urban is a member of the board of trustees of the Leibniz Institute for Applied Geophysics in Hanover. She was also Vice President of the Northeast Lower Saxony University of Applied Sciences for Research and Development, Internationalization. From 1996 to 1998 and 2000–2002 / 3 she was Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering (water management and environmental technology) and 2003–2005 of the Suderburg campus. From 2005 to 2006 she was Vice President of the merged University of Lüneburg. In addition, she was Local Dean and lecturer in the WATER project area of ​​the International Womens University (ifu) from July to October 2000.
